"In The Wake of The Bounty" is Errol Flynn's first film. It is also the first of two of Charles Chauvel's proposed series of docudrama's which would be part narrative and part travelogue. The other is "Heritage"
For the trivia buffs:
-Errol Flynn was a decendant of Fletcher Christian, the character he plays in this film.
-This incident in history has also been explored in "Mutiny on the Bounty", in 1935 with Charles Laughton and Clarke Gable and in 1962 Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando and again in "The Bounty" 1984 with Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson.
-MGM used parts of "In The Wake Of the Bounty" to create advertising featurettes for the 1935 version: "Primitive Pitcarn" and "Pitcarn Island Today"
The file has been repared and the movie is now complete

an observation
wow have times changed for the worse! at about the 48 minute mark the narrator says that inbreeding has been practiced for 160 years with no detrimental effect these days the law gives us great trouble for inbreeding. we certainly have become horribly stupid over the years!

Interesting
Few places are left now with the lush beaches with so many palm trees blowing in the breeze as it was in these movies. When these movies were made life was still fairly the same as it was 200 years prior, but in todays world there is barely a spot of the planet without all the luxuries we all take for granted. In 1935 people were still cutting wood with pit saws and salvaging timber from wrecked ships. I have a hunch, although I'm not certain Pitcarn is now a spot for the wealthy only where the descendants are 'jet setters' living off the royalties from some of the movies or something to that effect. On the other hand there are people who do nothing but exploit poor people to become fabulously wealthy. That's nothing new.

Lots of movie
It must have been fixed because I saw one hour of film via the on screen streaming version, with "THE END" credits. However, it was muddled and choppy and washed out, I am glad they were able to save/salvage what they did.
This was like 4 films in one. It starts out about the mutiny of the HMS Bounty, and then about the sailors that landed on Pitcairn Island and the descendants of Fletcher Christian and crew, then it was about daily life on Pitcairn, then there was a bit of sight-seeing by the film crew. They really packed the hour full.
If any film cries out "I wish you had made me in color" - it's this one. There is some amazing footage, too bad it's all sub-par and in B/W.
I thought this was very interesting viewing.

A good part of it is missing
In fact, the better part of it is missing. I mean the part where it actually gets interesting. Shortly after 35 minutes, all the way to the end, something happens to the film and it looks like somebody spilled a cup of dirty paint water all over it. All you get is the audio.

my mpeg4 was incompplete
About 38 + minutes in the whole thing stops playing and moving the time indicator forward doesn't help at all.
It was fairly interesting. Made me look up Tahiti but it ends abruptly at a most interesting part. too bad.
